DACA

After multiple failures to pass the DREAM Act through U.S. Congress, the Department of Homeland Security implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in 2012. Among other benefits, DACA offers conditional access to Social Security Numbers, temporary work authorization in the United States, limited protection from deportation, and limited access to advance parole for qualifying educational, humanitarian, and vocational reasons. These benefits being offered in full fidelity as of December 2020 require a $495 application and $495 renewal every 2 years. YIIN has partnered with immigrants across the region and local service organizations to offer legal filing fee assistance to individuals submitting renewal applications for this program.
